New Coffee Concepts
Product Review

Two new self-service coffee bar concepts claim to be ideal for workplace, college and healthcare catering sites.
Coffee Nation, which claims to be a leader in gourmet self-service coffee, has its sights set on new partnerships with hospitals, universities, further education colleges and commercial outlets after launching the Express, its first chip and pin coffee bar.
This follows the successful launch of the machine Birmingham University.
Coffee Nation Express is a chip and pin, self-service coffee bar that has been developed to provide any high-footfall environment with a branded coffee offer and a shared revenue stream in excess of £150,000 per year.
Built on the proven Coffee Nation platform, the Express concept has been enhanced to include an intuitive ‘touch screen’ for menu selection and has a chip & pin payment device that takes all major debit and credit cards as well as notes and coins.
It serves Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, Hot Chocolate and Mocha plus a range of flavour syrups including Vanilla, Caramel and Hazelnut, and allows customers to customise drinks and add fresh semi skimmed milk.
The Express can be positioned in areas of high footfall serving coffee to staff and visitors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A dedicated Helpline enables trained engineers to respond quickly to reduce downtime and loss of sales. Partners are not charged for service contracts or replacement parts, thereby enjoying cost free technical support.
Coffee Nation’s ‘Brand Guardians’ visit each concession on a regular basis to train staff, replenish stock and audit each one for cleanliness, drink quality and machine maintenance.
Already trading in almost 900 sites across the country, Coffee Nation has traditionally served the booming ‘on the go’ market, but hopes the Express brand can serve environments with a high footfall, fixed customer base.
Scott Martin, CEO, Coffee Nation said: “We have been developing the Express for some time with higher education environments in mind.
This is our first fully manned solution, which we know will thrive in these environments. We offer the gourmet products that are familiar with from high street chains, but deliver it in a format that is consistent and more convenient.”
Meanwhile, Europe’s leading vending operator Selecta has launched Caféroma, a new coffee solution to bring premium coffee culture to the workplace. It includes integrated ingredients, condiments and waste storage units for easy maintenance. It combines a table top machine with Selecta’s own brand of great tasting miofino bean-to-cup coffee that provides a variety of today’s most popular hot drinks, including latte and cappuccino.
With a growing trend towards premiumisation; Caféroma brings the barista to the workplace delivering high quality bean to cup miofino coffee, with 100% skimmed milk and served in a large, 12oz paper cups with sip lids, all at the touch of the button, and at a significantly lower price than that of the high street.
With 47% of consumers visiting coffee shops at least once a month and 50% of people drinking more take-away coffee than ever before, according to Allegra Strategies, Caféroma offers a stylish one stop shop that is designed to fit comfortably into any office environment, helping companies meet consumer demands and profit from the coffee-to-go culture.
“Caféroma is an innovative solution that taps into the growing popularity of table top machines and consumer demand for premium coffee. There is nothing else like it on the market that combines the convenience and added value of vending with the quality, taste and experience of the high street.
“There’s now a stylish coffee option to help businesses compete for the on-the-go coffee market,” says Selecta UK sales director Jonathan Barr.
